Classroom management is a “mystery,” says author and veteran English teacher Larry Ferlazzo in his new book, Building a Community of Self-Motivated Learners. But he doesn’t mean that it’s impossible to do well. Rather, he argues that it encompasses countless moving parts and changes of direction and that teachers, like good detectives, need to have a variety of strategies at their disposal to navigate and address them.

In this chat, Ferlazzo will answer your questions on creating the right conditions for effective classroom management and on addressing disciplinary and engagement problems that can interfere with instruction.
